Like many of you I have found some of my time in isolation a bit lonely, mainly due to my partner Maura being stuck in another country. Before the Michigan stay at home orders I had my late grandmother Alice's piano moved to my home. When I found out that both my upcoming trip to India and Maura's flight home from India were canceled and decided to temporarily close the doors of our yoga studio, I sat down at Alice's piano and started to play and see if I could find something that expressed and encapsulated my feeling of separation and distance. Thats when this 23 min piece of music began and what I wrote that first day are the first notes of the piano you hear as the piece settles at the beginning.

For anyone that knows me, you will know that I don't see things as cut and dry and through this piece I explore more than just a sense of lamenting sadness but move beyond it to find moments of where the expression of my loneliness liberates me from my own sadness.
