"If Reality did not exist, could there be any knowledge of existence? Free from all thoughts, Reality abides in the Heart, the Source of all thoughts. It is, therefore, called the Heart. How then is one to contemplate it? To be as it is in the Heart, is Its contemplation.”
-Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi
While Joseph was taking his 200 hr yoga teacher training he began composing and recording music as a form of reflection to his experience. After he completed his training, he felt compelled to continue his studies and head to India for a 500 hour training in Rishikesh. He finished writing and recording this album as a preparation for his seconded training.
This album is a reflection of his internal and visceral experiences in the timeless exploration of what we are. It also speaks to the mystery and imagination of what we dream we may be or become. This is reflected in the imaginative ways he uses his saxophone through loops and effects to create sonic pallets that you would not typically associate with the canon of saxophone music. Track three for example (Desireless Non-Desire), almost all of the sounds you hear from beginning to end are created by saxophones but the shimmering sounds are presented in a way that they create a new creature all together.
The ocean of consciousness is vast and although we are but a drop, to know one drop is to know the ocean.
